Wedding Humour: the Pitfalls and Pleasures 4.
Outside the church three Ascot hats
forgather
to take the air,
catch wraith-like memories, or just blather
on about some long lost days, then stare
a message at the camera’s lens. Seeking calm
the wedded pair hold hands beside the pool
whose marigolds shine brightly for the bride.
The time is ripe for friendly chats as, arm
in arm, the Anglo-Swedish passions cool
now all know Campbell’s goal was equalised.
Full Time! The parties take the road again
tussling with each
roundabout in turn, withstanding driver strain
to get past Wychbold Garden Centre’s reach,
then on to Hanbury junction’s slow-down
sign into Grafton Manor’s country lane.
The bridal Rolls slips quietly aside
to let the guests slide past the sumptuous gown
before it’s due to reappear again
to claim brief majesty for the coiffured bride.
