Tells how she grew tall and flaxen,
Turning the heads of boastful braves
Till she found her Hiawatha
And he found his Minnehaha:
As unto the bow the cord is
So unto the man is woman,
Though she bends him, yet she follows
Along the way to an old spa town.
Useless each without the other
Thus the youthful Hiawatha
Said within himself and pondered,
Much perplexed by various feelings,
Listless, longing, hoping, fearing,
Dreaming still of Minnehaha,
Of the lovely Rafting Water,
Tallest of the fair Torslandans.
As the father’s tales he ends there,
At the table tumult beckons:
Noisy braves and noisier squaws
Rattle with their spoons their glasses
Until the bride and groom stand forth,
Do their very public duty,
In fond embrace for all to see.
This they do each hour, each quarter...
